mikes mud truck
« on: August 21, 2018, 09:24:13 PM »
Thought I would finally make an effort and share some of my journey with other like minded people who could be interested.I have a Nissan Safari chassis and diffs that I have mounted a 39 Dodge Fargo cab & front clip. Decided to power it with a 440 big block with a 727 auto and Ram Charger transfer case. Did a deal with a bloke for a motor that was supposed to be a runner but ended up with a cracked block. Disaster...Anyway got another block and it's away now getting put together. Sent the heads away to get a bit of work done but he needed to know what type of cam I was useing, cam man wanted to know what size my carbies were (twin carbs on a tunnel ram)I couldn't get any numbers to correspond with anything on the Holley website so had to look like a fool and ask my mechanic. Turns out they are 600cfm. So now things are in motion and hopefully there will be some action soon. Cheers Mike.

Yea, will have to talk to one of the kids, thats a bit too techo for me, and wasn't  too sure if anyone would be interested since its not a genuine Mopar.

Yeah, My mini mopar wagon is a British Chrysler, built in NZ with a Toyota V8 so you can't get much more oddball than that. Except for Con's cool cars.

Got some double valve springs with the knackered motor. Thought it would be cool to stick them in my heads that are away at the head man. What a drama...apparently they may be too strong for my rocker gear and they may end up breaking somehow, so I may need to get adjustable rockers because standard 440 rockers are unadjustable. Also got a cool after market timing gear, real flash the man told me. Guess what the new cam has three bolts to mount the timing gear my flash one is only one bolt, seems everything I have is not terribly compatable with anything else, grrr Don't get me started on tyres....Ordered some from the tyre man. Will take six weeks to come from the states.Six weeks later it will be three more weeks. Then three more weeks to unload the container. Then today I rang him up and they are still in the states haven't even been despatched, grrrr.                                                         I suppose if it was easy everyone would be doing it.                                                              Don't want to sound as though I'm winging but getting a tad frustrated.

Been a bit of action on the mud truck. Bottom end is all in the block with my flash cam. Heads are at home ready to be put on. Need a high volume oil pump and pick up. Uh oh... Brought an old truck tray from the local wrecker cut it up to fit my chassis must admit it looks good. Next step is to take the cab off so I can finish all the welding on the refabricated firewall. It's gotta come off anyway so we can put the motor in when it's ready. Tracked down a couple of diff heasds with ARB air lockers so hopefully that might be a go. still no news on my tyres though, grrr.
